Who am I?

I’m a PhD student at Jacobs University in Bremen, Germany with a passion for the environment, conservation and nature photography. My work is fundamental science, studying the behavior of trace metals at marine geochemical interfaces. That means, I look at how these elements that are important as micro nutrients (or contaminants) to life in the ocean are influenced by different characteristics  of the water and especially by organic molecules while they are transported into the ocean.

But in my free time, my greatest passion is to be outdoors, go hiking, do conservation work (mostly renaturation of heath and peatlands in northern Germany) and to take photos of nature and wildlife. If you look at my gallery, you’ll find that I have a focus on portraits of birds but I like to shoot anything I find outside.

Ich bin Doktorand an der Jacobs University in Bremen mit einer Leidenschaft für die Umwelt, Naturschutz und Naturfotografie. Meine Arbeit ist Grundlagenwissenschaft und befasst sich mit dem Verhalten von Spurenmetallen an marinen geochemischen Übergangszonen. Das heißt, dass ich untersuche, wie sich diese Elemente verhalten, die eine wichtige Rolle als Mikronährstoffe (oder Schadstoffe) für marine Lebewesen spielen, unter dem Einfluss verschiedener Eigenschaften des Wassers und vor allem durch organische Moleküle, während sie ins Meer transportiert werden.

Aber in meiner Freizeit bin ich am liebsten draußen unterwegs, gehe wandern, engagiere mich im Naturschutz (hauptsächlich der Renaturierung von Heide- und Moorgebieten in Norddeutschland) und mache Fotos von Landschaften und Wildtieren. Wie man an meiner Galerie sieht, habe ich dabei einen Schwerpunkt auf Porträts von Vögeln, aber ich “schieße” auch gerne alles andere, was ich draußen finden.
